BaseBlue Power, an HDF Energy project

BaseBlue Power is an HDF Energy project: behind-the-meter fuel cell power plants for data centers, on equipment the same company designs, manufactures and commissions.

Who we are

BaseBlue Power is an HDF Energy project.

HDF Energy designs and manufactures the fuel cell, integrates it into MW-scale power blocks, and finances and commissions the plants that run on it.

  • Manufacturer

Hydrogen-powered PEM fuel cell systems built in-house, on mature latest-generation automotive stacks at TRL 9.

  • Integrator

Those systems are integrated into containerised power blocks of 1 to 1.5 MW, designed for fast, flexible operation.

  • Project financier

Financial modelling, debt and equity structuring, tax credit application and the management of financial due diligence.

  • Commissioning team

Pre-commissioning and commissioning in the factory and on site, through to provisional acceptance and as-built documentation.

What we do

End to end, on one team’s schedule.

Development, financing, construction and operation sit with the same people.

  1. 01

    Develop

Feasibility studies and power system modelling, land, permitting for hydrogen and power generation infrastructure, and the topographical, geotechnical and environmental studies that validate the design — carried through to Front-End Engineering and Design.

  2. 02

    Finance

Financial modelling and equity and debt structuring for large-scale energy projects, support on tax credit application and modelling, financial due diligence, and alignment with infrastructure funds and strategic investors.

  3. 03

    Build

Definition of the contracting strategy and management of the EPC tender, from the invitation to bid through technical and commercial evaluation to contract close — then process design, HAZID, HAZOP and performance simulation for the fuel cell plant.

  4. 04

    Operate

Pre-commissioning and commissioning in the factory and on site, validation of contractual performance, complete as-built documentation, and start-up and training of the people who will run the plant.

Track record

Built on equipment that is already running.

Neither half of the plant is a first of a kind. The fuel cell has a MW-scale reference in commercial service, and the reformer is an industrial platform with a fleet behind it.

  • CLEARGEN, Martinique

A 1 MW fuel cell in operation since 2020 for SARA. HDF Energy’s scope: basic design, equipment procurement and operational support.

  • TRL 9 stacks

Mature, latest-generation automotive PEM stacks — the same technology class already in series production for transport.

  • Pre-combustion capture

Carbon capture sits on the syngas side of the process, a route with industrial precedent rather than a post-combustion retrofit.

  • Half-load flexibility

The reforming train sustains performance down to 50 % load, which is what makes a phased build-out possible.

The team

Small team, close to the project.

Strategy and development, land, engineering and permitting, commercial, finance and the fuel cell itself — six people, each one on the project rather than above it.
